Commerce Galley host Anniversary Show

Commerce Gallery will host its 2023 Anniversary Show on Friday, March 3 with a Meet the Artists from 5-8 p.m.

The featured artists will be S.M. Chavez, Adam Young and Scott Simons.

There will be complimentary cocktails from Desert Door.

S.M. Chavez

Painting in oil, the principle subject within Chavez’s work is the Vaquero. Notable for its marriage of old and new, his work pays homage to historic masters such as the Taos Society of Artists while also looking towards the future of contemporary western art. With a soothing sense of color and exceptional design aesthetic, his work is firmly situated among the best that contemporary western painting has to offer.

Chavez has had three solo exhibitions on Santa Fe’s prestigious Canyon Road (in 2020, 2021, and 2022) – each of which sold out.

His work is included in notable corporate and private collections and is gaining the attention of notable curators at national art museums.

His work continues to be featured in exhibitions at the Coors Western Art Show, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Albuquerque Museum of Art and The Couse-Sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico.

National and regional publications regularly featuring his work include Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Wild West Magazine, New Mexico Magazine, Santa Fe Magazine, The Santa Fean, Western Art & Architecture, and Fine Connoisseur.

Adam Young

Adam is a self-taught woodworker, metalworker, and visual artist. His build work allows for the beauty of raw materials to speak through simple and unique design. His painted work delves into his curiosity of the natural world, folklore, his fascination with history and metaphorical storytelling. Originally from southwest Louisiana, he is a longtime resident of Austin where he still lives and works daily.

Scott Simons

Scott is a sixth-generation Texan who’s lived in Austin for 15 years. Scott has shown in multiple galleries and art spaces over the past twenty years and has been a practicing painter for most of his life.

Utilizing layers of paint and barely-visible markings and figures underneath overlays of color and washes of glaze, Scott focuses on creating a sense of depth, mystique and mystery that pulls the eye into the piece and begs the viewer to move closer.

“My work is an attempt to engage with something elemental about the human experience”, saids Simons, “We’re all a little bit blind. We don’t have all the answers and never will. Yet, we go on searching for meaning in life. We keep seeking and keep going. We go on through the beautiful fog. That’s what I want to honor in my work.”
