CARTS seeks community input for Draft Transportation Development Plan

The Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) has released a draft Transportation Development Plan (TDP) to identify solutions for improved transportation access in rural communities in its nine-county District that includes Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Travis, and Williamson counties.
The draft TDP will go to the CARTS Board of Director’s for review and adoption on July 27. We are looking for community comment before July 14. You can review the draft TDP, reports, outcomes of outreach efforts and give feedback at ridecarts.weebly.com/carts-transit-development-plan.html.
As part of the Transportation Development Planning process CARTS and the project team implemented a community and stakeholder outreach process to help define transportation needs in the community and then guide the development of solutions to meet those needs. The outreach efforts included:
CARTS Regional Transit Community Survey – Details the responses of over 400 survey responses.
CARTS Regional Focus Groups – Details the findings from regionally based focus groups with stakeholders from across the CARTS service area.
Individual Stakeholder Interviews – CARTS identified some major stakeholders in the region to be interviewed on needs and potential solutions for passenger transportation in the CARTS service area.
CARTS Employer Survey – Details the responses of frontline staff of CARTS who responded to a survey that asked them to identify current issues and solutions for the future.
Public Open House Events – Describes the finding of the nine open houses conducted in each county of the CARTS region.
“Potential improvements in this TDP may be implemented over the next 5 years, while some long-term solutions may be implemented down the road,” said Dave Marsh, CARTS General Manager. Putting these solutions in place will require additional funding and coordination with local and regional planning partners, but developing the plan now is a very important first step.”
