Alida Archer

Alida Rose Ravinet Archer, 79, died Dec. 2, 2009, in Temple, Texas. She had fought for two weeks to survive radical open-heart surgery to correct a rheumatic heart condition acquired at age 12.

She is survived by her husband, Ben Archer; sons: Ben, Jr., Jeffrey Archer (Pamela), Brian Archer (Beverly Pairett) and Craig Archer; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and t

hree great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Ernest Ravinet, of Richmond, Ind., and a sister, Raquel Scotten, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alida was the daughter of first-generation U.S. citizens, Ernesto Ravinet of Antofagasta, Chile, and Rose Fratellio, of Naples, Italy. Her international roots are largely responsible for her love of travel and learning. She was a faithful member of University of Texas continuing education seminars from 2003 until illness forced her to stop attending in October 2009. Her giving nature and civic mindedness led to supporting many charities and service organizations. She was a regular supporter of Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics, Hays County Food Bank, Austin Lyric Opera, Hays-Caldwell Womens’ Center, American Heart Association, Alzheimer Foundation, and Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Alida had been an active member and sometime officer of Kiwanis, San Marcos Activity Center, Gary Job Corps Community Relations Council, San Marcos CISD “Partners in Education” and CISD Art Appreciation.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held for her at the San Marcos Activity Center on Jan. 4, 2009, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at 2211 Summit Ridge in San Marcos.
