Billie Morrison
Billie Morrison, 89, of Austin, peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009. He was born on Sept. 4, 1920, in Porter, Okla., to Richard Lee Morrison and Alice Eubanks Morrison and was one of nine children.
Billie joined the Army Air Corp. in November 1939 and served six years as Master Sergeant. After the war he owned his own Taxi Service in Tulsa, OK
. Billie then went to work for the Gulf Oil Co. in TX, LA, and Mississippi. He then went to work for the U.S. Post Office in Phoenix, AZ and transferred to Austin in 1964. In 1966 he purchased Morrison Auto Parts in Austin and was the owner and operator until his retirement in 1985. Billie was involved in every community he was a part of. He built and owned Rocking M. Dance Hall (1971-1973). He owned Navajo Station Indian Jewelry from (1984 -1995). Billie served on the Mustang Ridge City Council from 1989-1992 and was elected Mayor on Aug. 11, 1992 and served until May 14, 1996 and still remained on the council until Aug. 10, 2009.
Billie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Theresa Morrison, and son, Billie Wayne Morrison.
Billie is survived by his sons, Jerry Morrison and wife, Karen, and Clyde Morrison and wife, Betty; grandchildren, Jeannie Boyd and husband, Matthew, Jerry Morrison, II, and wife, Kimberly, and Jared Morrison and wife, Nelly; great-grandchildren, Najaia, Coyette, Jacob, Zoey, Jason and Joseph; siblings, Walter Morrison, Paul Morrison and wife, Kosco, Edna Thomas and Mildred Urbina; and many other loving family members and friends.
The family received friends on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, from 3 – 5 p.m. at Cook-Walden/ Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Dr.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
