Lockhart Independent School District announced the selection of Jamee Griebel as the inaugural Principal of Borchert Loop Elementary, set to open in August 2025. With more than two decades of experience in education, Griebel brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her new role.

Griebel, a Lockhart native and Lockhart High School graduate, began her career as a 7th-grade math teacher at Lockhart Junior High, followed by a Leadership Technology teacher position at Lockhart High School. She then transitioned to elementary education, serving as a teacher from 2006 to 2014. This fall, Griebel became a Technology Instructional Mentor, where she helped integrate technology into classrooms to enhance student learning.

In spring 2015, Jamee was appointed Assistant Principal at Plum Creek Elementary, a role she held until fall 2016, when she was promoted to Principal. Her leadership at Plum Creek Elementary has been marked by fostering a strong academic environment and a supportive school culture based on high expectations for students and staff.

In addition to her work at the campus level, Griebel has also served on a wide array of district leadership committees, including District Shared Leadership Core Team member, LISD Bond Committee Member, Navigate to 28 Committee Member, and Attendance Rezoning Committee Member. Griebel is also a graduate of the Holdsworth Leadership Program and piloted the LISD Shared Leadership model at Plum Creek Elementary five years ago, a model that now every campus in Lockhart ISD uses for instructional leadership. She has recently been a panelist at SXSW EDU and presented at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Mid-Winter conference on the shared leadership model.

“Jamee’s extensive experience in teaching and administration makes her the ideal leader to launch Borchert Loop Elementary. Her vision for the new school is rooted in a commitment to academic excellence, building strong systems, and community engagement,“ said Lockhart ISD Superintendent Mark Estrada. “She has shown remarkable dedication to Lockhart ISD and has a track record of success at every level of her career.”

Griebel added, “I am extremely proud to represent Lockhart ISD and take on this new role. The district has grown so much, and I’m so excited to be a part of this monumental time. I can’t wait to welcome all the students, families, and staff to Borchert Loop next August.”

Griebel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Master’s in Education Leadership from Texas State University.

Borchert Loop Elementary is currently under construction and on schedule for completion in late spring 2025, which will allow it to have the summer to prepare for its grand opening in August.

Griebel will continue as Principal of Plum Creek and begin her new role as Executive Principal immediately. As Executive Principal, she will oversee both campuses and train Assistant Principals to create strong leadership structures and systems as the district continues to expand and in need of a deeper leadership pipeline. Her responsibilities will include directing and managing instructional programs, supervising campus-level operations and personnel, and expanding the Lockhart ISD shared leadership model.

This new and innovative position, that is budget neutral, provides the opportunity to also create an Executive Assistant Principal position for Lockhart ISD. The Executive AP will work directly under Griebel and serve both campuses as well. While each campus will still have site-based Assistant Principals, the Executive Principal, and Executive AP will share leadership responsibilities at both campuses. The Executive AP position will be posted on Lockhart ISD careers page in the upcoming days to begin the hiring process. This role better positions the district to ensure a ready leader is available for future principal positions as the district grows.

Throughout this fall of 2024 and spring of 2025, while continuing to serve as Principal of Plum Creek, Griebel will prepare for the opening of Borchert Loop. The preparation of opening a new campus requires extensive planning, hiring of staff, purchasing supplies, materials, and resources, and developing campus systems to ensure a smooth and efficient campus opening in August 2025.
