COLLEGE STATION – Six touchdown passes coupled with a 2-to-1 advantage in players available (76-38) added up to a College Station thrashing of the Lockhart Lions Friday night at Cougar Field, 56-10.

Lockhart fell to 2-6 on the season, 2-4 in District 12 action. College Station, the 6th-ranked team in 5A Division 1, improved to 8-1, 6-1. The Cougars’ only loss was to crosstown rival A&M Consolidated, 34-20, on Sept. 20. College Station visits Weiss on Oct. 31 in what will likely be for the runner-up position in the district.

Lockhart was outmanned early and often as College Station scored on all 5 of its first-half possessions as well as its first three of the second half.

Senior quarterback Cade Corcoran was near perfect, competing his first 7 pass attempts on a night he finished 17-of-20 for 276 yards and 6 touchdowns.

His first TD pass came with 10:02 left in the first quarter, taking just one play to get in the end zone after a punt return to the Lockhart 21. Gustavo Lopez kicked the first of his eight successful PATs for a 7-0 lead.

The Cougars took just two plays to score on their second possession, with Corcoran hitting Aydan Martinez-Brown on a short pass and watched him sprint 38 yards for the score and a 14-0 lead.

A 6-play drive included 5 pass completions for Corcoran on the third series, the final 13 yards coming on a pass to Zak Cosser.

The Cougars made it 28-0 after recovering a Lockhart fumble on the kickoff at the 34 and taking just 2 plays to reach the end zone, a 4-yard direct snap run by Wilson Stapp.

College Station drove 76 yards for its first score of the second period, capped off by another 4-yard run by Stapp with 3:24 left in the half and a 35-0 lead.

Lockhart got on the board as time expired in the half when Evan Estrada booted a 26-yard field goal.

College Station added a 3-yard pass from Corcoran to Stapp with 10:32 remaining in the period, a 9-yard TD pass from Corcoran to Trey Walton with 6:30 left in the third, and a 19-yard TD pass from Corcoran to Grady Pryor with 54 seconds left in the quarter to lead 56-3 and close out the home team’s scoring.

Lockhart reached the end zone on the second play of the fourth quarter when Kadon Moebes tossed a 20-ard pass to Gage Deutsch, who got behind his defender and made the catch. Estrada’s PAT was good to close out the scoring with 10:26 remaining.

After an injury to a College Station player required him to be taken off via stretcher, the teams agreed to have a running cock the rest of the way.

According to anther media outlet’s reporting, the player was alert and moving all of his extremities and talking with trainers, doctors, and EMTs.

Nathaniel Gonzales finished with a game-high 125 yards rushing on 25 attempts for the Lions. Moebes completed 5-of-11 passes for 37 yards, 32 of which were hauled in on 2 receptions by Deustch.

Lockhart will play its final home game of the season, welcoming Austin Anderson to Lions Stadium Friday in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Trojans handled Hays, 42-26, last week to improve to 6-2 overall, 4-2 in the district.
