Lions dominate Schmeckenfest Showdown

LA GRANGE — The Lockhart Lions basketball teams had an impressive showing last week at the Schmeckenfest Showdown in La Grange, bringing home numerous victories and memories.
Varsity Lions
take the crown
LHS’ varsity made a statement by going undefeated (5-0) in the tournament, including victories over Bastrop, Hallettsville, and Schulenburg.
In the semifinals, the Lions triumphed over Yoakum with a decisive 76-56 win before facing Bastrop in a thrilling championship game. Lockhart emerged victorious, 60-55, to claim the tournament title.
DJ Anthony (junior) and Dareon Loggins (senior) made the All-Tournament Team, and Jay Villalobos (junior) was selected as the tournament Most Valuable Player. The Varsity team is now 11-0 on the season.
“I am so proud of how hard our teams played over the past three very long days,” said LHS Head Coach Collin Hart. “We’ve seen great improvements through these long days of practices and games, and we’ve made amazing memories as a team playing games, traveling, and sharing meals together.”

The Junior Varsity Lions showcased their resilience, finishing the tournament with a 2-2 record. Their effort and determination continue to set a strong foundation for growth and future success.
Freshman Lions
stay unbeaten
The Freshman Lions dominated the tournament, going 4-0 and securing back-to-back tournament championships. They crushed Bastrop in the championship game with a commanding 45-19 victory. With this performance, the Freshman team extends their perfect season record to 13-0.
The Lions were back in action on Tuesday, playing at Northeast Early College High School.
