Irene Mae Houchin

Irene Mae Houchin, 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on February 17,1934 in Dayton, Ohio to Harry and Mary Barnes. In 1958, she moved to Texas with her first husband, Jack Marshall. They had two daughers, Susan Jane. Jack passed away in 1973 and she remarried ten years later to Earl Houchin.
In 1990, after retiring from the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD), she moved to Lockhart with Earl. After his death in 2015, she would remain there until 2018 when she moved back to Corpus Christi to be closer to her two daughters and their families.
She leaves behind daughters, Susan (Leonard) Elzner and Jane (Nathan) Marshall-Ritter; four grandchildren, Jessica Ritter, Shaunna (Colt) Gordon, Adam Elzner, and Brianna Elzner; and three great-Grandchildren: Graycen and Charlotte Gordon, Marshall McLain II
She and Earl loved being active members of the Masonic Lodge in Lockhart and Litton Springs. They were also members of the First Methodist Church in Lockhart where many good friends and memories were made. When she moved to Corpus Christi, she found another loving church, St. Luke’s Methodist, that she immensely enjoyed.
There will be a memorial service in the chapel of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 3151 Reid Dr. in Corpus Christi, TX on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2 pm. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Masonic Lodge 690, 602 S. Main Street, Lockhart, TX 78644.
Her family loved her very much and will miss her smile, hugs and silly personality along with her phone calls that always seem to come just when needed. She could always make us laugh.
With her smiling big at you, she would say, “No, no, no, you made me laugh!” We will miss you momma.
