Beverly Iona West Obituary

Beverly Iona West, a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully in her bed at home on January 14, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on October 17, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, and raised on a dairy farm in La Vernia. Beverly spent her life living out her values of faith, family, and community.

Beverly married the love of her life, Jerry West, March 23rd, 1974. Together for 51 years, they built a family that was her proudest accomplishment and her greatest joy. She is survived by her husband, Jerry West, their children: Jerimiah West and his wife Sheila, along with their children Elise and Elias; Amanda Stowe and her husband Ian, along with their daughter, Lucile; Peggy West; and Christopher West and his wife, Nicole, along with their children Landon and Piper. Beverly also embraced two “adopted” sons, James (Pop) Roland and Javier Mena, with the same boundless love she gave to her family.

She also is survived by her siblings; Judy Morris, Laura Herley, and Fred Scull, her in-laws; Tom Morris, Danny Herley, and Gail Schroeder, and all of her beloved nieces and nephews.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Ross Scull; her mother, Mary Alice Scull; her brother, Buddy Scull and wife Kim; her dear Aunt Nora Boenig, and Uncle Larry.

Beverly’s life was one of service and joy. She worked in education for 30 years, shaping young minds and hearts with the same care and compassion she gave to her own family. A dedicated member of the Dale and Lockhart communities, she spent years as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Dale Community Center, devoting countless hours to organizing, cleaning, and helping the center thrive. Beverly also volunteered with organizations like RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) and at events like the Chisholm Trail Roundup. She embodied the spirit of giving and service at every opportunity.

Faith was the foundation of Beverly’s life. Raised in a Christian household, she carried those values throughout her life and ensured they lived on through her children. She was active in her churches, leading programs like Vacation Bible School, providing meals, and sharing her love of hymnals, especially the Cokesbury Hymnal. Her faith was unwavering, and her love for scripture, particularly passages like John 16:33, Proverbs 3:5-6, and Isaiah 53:4-5, reflected her devotion.

Beverly found joy in cooking, reading, gardening, dancing and traveling with Jerry, and raising and inspiring her grandchildren. She was also a fierce competitor in domino games, a passion she shared with her loved ones.

She will be remembered for her beautiful heart, her gentle and genuine nature, her patience, and her overwhelming kindness. Beverly’s love was a gift to everyone who knew her, and her memory will forever be a blessing.

A gathering to honor Beverly’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dale Community Center, located at 47 Civic Drive, Dale, TX 78616. A memorial lunch will follow at the same location.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to her hospice caregivers—Brianna, Rihanna, and Aly—as well as to the many friends and loved ones who prayed for and with her.

Beverly’s legacy is one of faith, love, and service, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.
