J.V. Softball defeats Bastrop
The Lady Lion junior varsity softball team defeated the Bastrop Lady Bears , 9-7, on Tuesday, March 1, with a home field advantage.
The Lady Lions got out to a rough start allowing the Lady Bears to score six runs in the first inning.
Lockhart got their bats moving early with a lead off a double by Annette McElroy-Ramirez.
Erika Levario followed up with a s
ingle to score Ramirez.
Jaimie Ruiz reached first with a hit by a pitch, which put runners in scoring position for Shelly Castro, who ripped a stand-up double scoring two more runs for the Lions.
The rally did not end there. The Lady Lions kept pressing for runs with Naomi Oliva taking ball four, and Cameron Stanley reaching base on an error helped Briana DeLeon snag 2 RBI’s and a double.
Again, Ramirez kept the fire going sending another ball deep left field to grab another double.
The Lady Bears scored one run in the second, making the score 6-7 in favor of Bastrop.
However, the Lady Lions were out for more runs with Courtney Lee leading off with a double. Ruiz pulled through to score Lee making the score tied 7-7.
Camille Burrus-Clay led off the inning with a base from bad Bastrop pitching.
Ramirez came through strong sending a ball deep left to score Clay and herself.
The winning pitcher was Shelly Castro who threw 4 complete innings for the Lions. Outstanding offensive player was Ramirez who was three out of three hits with two doubles and a homerun.
The Lady Lion junior varsity team has improved their record to 3-1.
The Lockhart softball program will match up against Del Valle for their next home game on Friday, March 18.
