The Caldwell County community will come together later this month to remember Caldwell County Precinct 2 Environmental Crimes Investigator Ryan McKnight, a public servant whose time with the community was brief but whose impact reached far beyond the badge. A Celebration of Life for McKnight will be held Monday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Caldwell County Community & Evacuation Center, 2947 N. Magnolia Ave. in Luling.

McKnight’s family has been working closely with his law enforcement colleagues over the past several days to plan a service that reflects the man he was and the relationships he built during his life and career. The gathering is open to members of the community, friends, fellow first responders and others whose lives were touched by McKnight.

Although his time serving with the office was described as far too short, McKnight quickly established relationships throughout Caldwell County. His work brought him alongside fellow law enforcement officers, firefighters, school districts, local agencies and members of the public.

In a relatively short period of time, those professional relationships often became personal ones, and McKnight became a friend and trusted colleague to many throughout the area. The Aug. 31 service will focus not only on McKnight’s work in law enforcement, but also on the many roles he held away from the job, as a father, son, brother and friend.

Organizers said the Celebration of Life is intended to be a time for those who knew McKnight to share stories, laughter and tears while remembering the person behind the badge and giving thanks for the time they were able to share with him. Following the ceremony, those attending are invited to remain at the Center for food and fellowship.    The community is encouraged to share information about the service with others who knew McKnight or whose lives were touched by his service. For those who worked beside him and those who came to know him during his time in Caldwell County, the Aug. 31 gathering will offer an opportunity to honor a life of service and remember a man whose influence extended well beyond his official duties.
