Austin mayor Will Wynn invited the Caldwell County Commissioners Court to appoint a member to the City of Austin’s Citizens Bond Advisory Committee this month.
“As you know, investments and decisions by the City of Austin can have an impact well beyond our city limits,” Wynn said in a letter to Caldwell County Judg
e H.T. Wright. Wynn’s invitation extended to Commissioners’ Courts in each of the five counties surrounding Austin.
County Commissioner Joe Roland was selected to fill the position. Roland’s appointment, which was confirmed by the Commissioners’ Court on Monday, will be for informational purposes only. Roland will be a non-voting member of the committee.
The Commissioners also settled on two nominations for the available seats on the Caldwell County Appraisal District’s board of directors.
Lockhart-area resident Hye Brown was nominated unanimously by the Court. Luling-area candidate Frank Hinds was nominated by a majority vote, with Commissioners Tom Bonn and Neto Madrigal abstaining.
Wright presented the tax collection reports for the month of February 2005.
According to figures provided by interim chief appraiser Matthew Allen, the Caldwell County Appraisal District has collected nearly $6 million in taxes for the 2004 tax year, along with an additional $356,000 in delinquent taxes.
“I suspect that the delinquent tax from the Luling area is mostly from minerals,” Wright said.
The Commissioners paid bills in the amount of $128,916.08. Because of at least two indigent cancer patients, $57,252.82 of that sum was applied toward indigent health care, while another $10,372.10 was spent on indigent legal defense.
