    Mary Sue Gonzales, known lovingly to family and friends as Mary Sue, passed away on September 22, 2026, in Lockhart, Texas, at the age of 83. She was born on July 27, 1943, in Martindale, Texas, and she lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew her.

     Mary Sue was a Christian woman whose life reflected the values she held dear. She carried herself with kindness, strength, and quiet grace, and she was deeply committed to the people she loved. Her presence brought comfort and joy to her family, and her memory will continue to be cherished by all who were blessed to share in her life.

    She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernadina Perales; her father, Vidal Perales Sr.; her step-mother, Juanita Perales; her brothers, Vidal Perales Jr., Felimon Perales, Benjamin Perales, and Adam Perales; and her sisters, Delia Balteria, Yolanda Ramirez, Anita Sanchez, and Consuelo Sanchez. Their passing was a sorrow she carried, and she held their memories close throughout her life.

   Mary Sue is survived by her children, Arthur Hernandez and his wife Sheri, Norman Hernandez, and Brenda Serna and her husband Silvestre Jr. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Desiree Cantu and her husband Leo, Silvestre Serna III, Clairé Gomez and her husband Diego, Kristopher Gibson, and Alivia Gibson. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Michael Navarro, Mia Gomez, Ryan Serna, Isaiah Cantu, Leland Cantu, and Diego Maxson Gomez. She was also lovingly surrounded by her grand fur babies, Sophie Serna, Chloe Hernandez, Jojo Serna, and Riley Serna, who brought her additional comfort and companionship.

    She is also survived by her siblings, Fred Perales, Felix Perales, Johnny Perales, Hermanlinda Sandifer, Fita Juarez, Linda Thomas, Emma Garcia, and Lisa Perales, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection. The bonds she shared with her family were strong and enduring, and her love extended generously across generations.

     Mary Sue was known for the many simple and heartfelt ways she showed love. She made pecan praline candy, oatmeal pecan cookies, and nopales that family members looked forward to and remembered fondly. Her kitchen was often a place of warmth and welcome, where recipes were shared, stories were told, and memories were made. She also enjoyed embroidering dish towels, working word searches, and spending quality time with her family. These cherished interests reflected her thoughtful nature and her appreciation for the small joys of everyday life.

     Those who knew Mary Sue will remember her as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a blessing to many, and her memory will be treasured always.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date.
