Lockhart ISD has hired Les Goad as the new boys” athletic director (A.D.) and head football coach for Lockhart High School after former A.D. Bryce Monsen resigned Feb. 16.
“We had over 100 applicants with 17 getting a first interview and five applicants coming in for a second interview,” said LISD Superintendent John Hall said. ”
It was a long process that resulted with the best candidate.
“Goad is an exceptional advocate for the athletic program. He has character and an imagination for what will come,” said Dr. Hall.
Les Goad started his new position Monday, April 11, at the high school with friendly greetings from the faculty and students.
“Lockhart has welcomed me,” Goad said. “They have extended their help, and the kids have responded well to the change.
“I”m getting acclimated by meeting new people and learning everyone”s names. I have an important job ahead of me teaching new plays and learning about the athletes,” Goad said.
Having twenty years of experience, Goad has been a head coach for nine years and an A.D. for five years. He moved to Lockhart after being offensive coordinator at San Marcos for three years.
Goad plans to run a “Multiple Slot-T” offensive system on the field. He said it was successful when he was coaching under Bruce Bush in San Marcos.
When it comes to challenges, Goad said he is ready step up and face whatever comes his way.
“We only have two returning starters in a competitive district,” Goad said. “It will be a big challenge with the lack of experience, but that is what coaching is all about.”
“A.D. is an administrative role where I will be seeing over the men”s sport programs. It is a challenging position, but I like stepping up to challenges,” Goad said.
“I want to build on the success of last year. My goal is to return to playoffs and win district with the biggest goal being State Champs.
With the Lions” “One Heartbeat” attitude, Goad feels Lockhart”s athletic program has strong character values.
“There are strong traditions here, and I want to continue those. This program is based on effort, enthusiasm, and character. I want to emphasize theses characteristics that have already been displayed through these athletes.
“The number one message I want to send out is to let everyone know my ultimate goal is the same as the educators. I want the students to succeed in the classroom, on the field as well as in life.”
