Lady Lions close season with playoff finish
The Lady Lion softball team competed at the Area Championship game last Thursday, May 5.
Lockhart faced the tough Medina Valley Panthers who finished first in their district this year.
The Panthers got things started early. They scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead.
The Lady Lions tried to get something going, and finally in the fourth
inning scored a run when Whitney Wendt knocked Lee Smith in. The score at that point was 1-3.
The Lady Lions scored another run in the sixth when
Brittany Naumann hit Noelle Marquina in to cross home plate.
Two runs didn”t prove to be enough against the solid Medina Valley team. The final score was 2-6.
Alyssa Gonzales and Lee Smith had two hits Thursday night.
Zaida Hager, Brittany Naumann, Janie Juarez, Krystal Schulle, Whitney Wendt, and Noelle Marquina all had one hit.
The Lady Lion softball team had another winning season this year with an overall record of 16-11 and a district record of 7-5.
The Lady Lions will be losing five incredible seniors: Whitney Wendt, Krystal Schulle, Lee Smith, Cecilia Sandoval, and Rita Villalpando.
“We wish these seniors the best of luck in the future,” Coach Lisa Cone said. “Two of them will be competing at the college level. Lee Smith will play softball at Trinity University in San Antonio and Krystal Schulle will be playing volleyball at the University of Houston.”
