Curtis “Mackey” Smith
Curtis “Mackey” Smith was born to Curtis and Margaret McMahan Smith in Lockhart, Texas, on Dec. 3, 1930. He was the oldest of seven children.
Curtis Mackey had a sense of humor that was out of this world, and a special love for his grandchildren. He loved to talk on the phone with friends a
nd spend time with his family, especially on the holidays.
In his younger years, he became a member of the First Baptist Church, which he served faithfully.
Curtis proudly served in the United States Army for more than two years during the Korean War, in which time he developed a special friendship with A.V. “Jap” Johnson.
Curtis is survived by one sister, Crystal Smith Allen of Austin; one daughter, Jo Ann Scott (Richard), of Wichita, Kan.; three sons: James M. Smith, of Wichita, Kan., Don D. Smith (Carla), of Wichita, Kan., and Kenneth Smith (Angela), of Lockhart, Texas. He is also survived by his companion, Gladys Franklin, of Lockhart; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Fleming officiating. Interment followed at Lane Cemetery in Lockhart.
Serving as pallbearers were: Joe Jennings, Henry Jennings, Lex Jennings, Jr., Christopher Jennings, Wilford Wills and Quinton Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Lex Jennings, Jeremy Wills, Kevin Nunn, Bubba Jennings, George Coleman and Robert Thompson.
