L.J.H. volleyball sweeps district competitors aside
8th Grade “A” Team
The 8th grade “A” team escaped with a win against the Barton Bobcats on Monday night, Sept. 19.
During the first game, the girls started slowly allowing Barton to match them point for point throughout the first 10 points of the game.
The Lady Lions eventually got things going, and pulled away with a 25-16 win.
Desiree Roland had sev
eral key hits, despite playing the game with a sore, stiff neck. Jamie Schulle led the defense with several key digs from all areas of the court.
During the second game, Lockhart struggled making several crucial mistakes, and found themselves trailing by seven points with a score of 12-19. The team held it together, behind key serves from Jordyn Platt, and smart play from Kelsey Daily at the net. The Lady Lions escaped the second game with a 25-23 win to take the match in two games.
“It definitely wasn”t our best game, but we”ll take the win, said Coach LeAnn Sibley. “We are about to start the second round of our district play, so we have some tough games ahead of us. It is important that we eliminate the unforced errors so that we don”t get surprised by anyone.”
The 8th grade “A” volleyball team defeated the Wallace Lady Rangers Monday night, Sept. 26, in a district contest, 25-8, and 25-19.
During the first game, Alison Clark led the team with six serves, followed by Desiree Roland, who also had six serves. Brandy Stacks led the offense with five kills, and Roland followed with four kills of her own.
During the second game, Lauren Moore played solid for the team, with three serves, and three kills at the net. Stacks, was again outstanding offensively, as she led the team with seven serves, and three kills.
The team was without Jamie Schulle, who is sidelined right now with a sore shoulder.
The Lady Lions are half way through their season, and are currently 7-2 overall, and 4-1 in district play. They play their next game at home, on Oct. 3 against the Miller Diamondbacks.

8th Grade “B” Team
The Lady Lions 8th grade “B” volleyball team defeated the Bobcats from Barton Middle School Monday night, Sept. 19, in three nail-biting games.
The Lady Lions won the first game, 25-21. Amanda Wright, Desiree Winn, and Audrey Valdez had solid serving for the Lions.
In the second game, the Lions had an early lead, but could not hold on to the advantage and lost a close one, 22-25. Audrey Aguilar played excellent defense with four digs. Erin O”Connor had seven serves for the Lady Lions, while Monica Parra had five. Christina Knudsen had an awesome game at the net with four kills.
In the third game, the Lady Lions were fired up taking the Bobcats down, 15-6. Amanda Alvarez played skillful defense, while Kariah Selby and Winn had four kills each.
The Lady Lions 8th Grade “B” team defeated Wallace Middle School in two quick games, 25-11 and 25-10, on Monday, Sept. 26.
In the first game, Amanda Alvarez contributed nine points with her consistent serving. Amanda Wright and Kariah Selby had an aggressive game at the net with four kills each.
In the second game, the Lady Lions put the Rangers away quickly with Erin O”Connor”s outstanding serving performance consisting of 12 points in a row. Julia Robicheax and Monica Parra also added solid serving for the Lady Lions with five points each. Audrey Aguilar and Christina Knudsen also added points for the Lions with three kills each at the net.
The Lady Lions are now 4-1 in district play and 7-2 overall. They will begin their second round of district play Monday, Oct. 3, at home against San Marcos Miller.

7th Grade Teams
Last Monday, Sept. 19, the Lady Lions 7th grade “A” and “B” volleyball teams improved their district records to 2-2 by defeating the Barton Bobcats.
The “A” team had two awesome servers for the night, Veronica Escobedo and Kassie Gaddis.
The “B” team lost their first game but came back stealing two games in a row to win the match.
“Way to Go Lady Lions,” Coach Tamar Collins said.
The 7th grade “A” team had to battle for three games before they defeated Wallace, 23-25, 25-14,and 15-3.
Briana Ortiz and Meredith Oliveros both made eight serves in a row. Kassie Gaddis completed 10 serves in a row for the second consecutive game.
The Lady Lions 7th grade “B” team was down 24-17 in the first game; however, they came back and won 27-25.
Cassie Arredondo completed nine serves in a row to help the Lady Lions come back and win the first game.
Alyson Baltierra and Ashley Hagen both had awesome serving performances that helped the Lady Lions win the second game, 25-13.
The Lady Lions will begin the second half of their season at home against San Marcos Miller on Monday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 & 6:15.
