Lady Lions slaughter Lady Rams 75-19
The Lady Lions hosted the Lady Rams of Austin Johnston Tuesday evening in a 6:30 tip off.
After losing four straight tough games at the Gonzales tournament the Lady Lions were excited to get back on the floor after an extended break through the Holidays. Seven Lady Lions got into the scorebooks, led by Senior post Whitney Winn with eight (12 for the game), four from
Junior post Noelle Marquina, two from Mariah Carter, three from SueRe”esa Williams (game high 16) two from Andrea Carter; two from Adrian Carter and two from Tara Chapman. The Lady Lions led 23-6 at the end of the first quarter.
“We really wanted to come out of the gates aggressive and wake opportunities for ourselves,” said head coach David Johnston.
The Lady Lions utilized a full-court zone press, which caused havoc for the Lady Rams and forced them into two quick time-outs. “It”s very special to come out like that and force another team to call time-outs. We really did a great job of pressuring the ball and then converting on our transition opportunities,” added Johnston.
The Lady Lions used a heavy rotation to continue a high-level of pressure. Zenaida Rabin grabbed four rebounds, scored three points and picked up an assist. Bobbi Schulle rotated in at the guard position and added an assist and four points. Sophomore Guard, Ka”Tina would play a dual role alternating at the point guard position for Williams and playing some of the two-guard position. Green led all Lady Lions with six assists for the game to go along with six points. “Ka”Tina did a great job tonight She played more minutes at
the point tonight and really stepped up.”
The Lady Lions led 39-11 at half time.
The third quarter saw the same offensive output from the Lady Lions outscoring their opponent 26 to 1 in the quarter. All ten Lady Lions scored and came up with a team effort of 20 steals while keeping their turnovers under 20. The Lady Lions had a team-high 25 assists with Green giving six, William giving five, Chapman giving four, Adrian Carter giving two, Andrea Carter giving three, Winn giving two and Rubio, Schulle, Marquina all contributing one.
The fourth quarter saw the Lady Lions close out the Rams and even their season record at 4-4 with a 75-19 victory. “We Defended the Den and I am very proud for the girls,” said Johnston.
The Lady Lions will take part in the Giddings Invitational Tournament this weekend.
