JV Lions win Seguin Invitational
Last Thursday and Saturday, the junior varsity boys” basketball team played in the Seguin Matador Invitational.
The Lions” first game was against Smithson Valley. Although Lockhart was down by four points at the half, the Lions made their move in the 4th quarter.
Terrance Walden hit two big three-point shots, which added
to the Lions 19-10 run in the fourth. The Lions ended the game 54-49 over Smithson Valley.
Leading scorers were Terrance Walden with 17 points and Thomas Elizondo with 14 points.
The Lions played their second game against district rival Pflugerville Connolly. “Little did we know, this was going to be a barn burner of a game,” said coach Brandon Durst. The game remained close and was tied at the half.
Both teams came out strong and put up a fight throughout the game, which ended with a tied score at the end of regulation.
After two rounds of overtime, the Lions took over and beat Connolly by three points.
For the championship game, the Lions had yet another close against New Braunfels Canyon Cougars. At half time the Lions were up by one after a 13-3 run in the second quarter.
After outscoring the Cougars 15-8 in the fourth quarter, Lockhart took home a 53-45 win over the Cougars and the championship.
