Billy Ray Chambers
Billy Ray Chambers, 80, of Lockhart, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Father’s Day, June 16, 2013, after a prolonged period of declining health.
Billy was born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Kilgore, Texas, to the late Thomas Lee Chambers and Irene Glenwood Chambers. He grew up throughout Texas before settling down in the Luling area. Billy entered the banking busi
ness in Luling working in the bank’s bookkeeping department and eventually moved to Lockhart where he continued his banking and ended up as President of Lockhart State Bank. After he retired from the State Bank, Billy wasn’t finished with his banking duties. Billy was recruited as Executive Vice President of the First Lockhart National Bank where he finished out a 49-year banking career. During his banking career, Billy served as an active member of the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged after 14 years of service. It was also during this time that he met and married Mary Spencer Chambers.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lee Chambers; mother, Irene Chambers; brothers, Donald Chambers and Lee Chambers; and sister, Patsy Chambers Reed.
Billy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary, and his son, Mark Chambers and wife, Darlene, of Kyle; brother, Edgar and Linda Chambers, of Luling; sister-in-law, Patricia Chambers; and grandchildren: Bradley Chambers and Kacie, of Lavernia, Texas, Ashley Chambers of Austin, and Nicole Torres, of College Station. Billy is also survived by the loves of his life, twin grandsons, Colin and Braden Chambers, of Lavernia, Texas.
The family planned to receive visitors from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at McCurdy Funeral Home, in Lockhart. Funeral services were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, with interment following at the Luling City Cemetery, Luling, Texas.
