Maria Mendoza

Maria “Tia Vica” Mendoza, the cornerstone of our family, was born in Lytton Springs, Texas on Nov. 12, 1924, arrived home in Christ to join her husband, Trinidad Mendoza, and her parents Lenor and Isac Ruiz on April 24, 2014.

Maria is also preceded in death by two of her children, Simonita and Juanita Mendoza; seven brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her

younger brother, Leornardo Ruiz, her younger sister, Antonia Ybarra, her youngest sister, Acensiona Estrada, her children: Sophia M. Cardenas, Mary C. Sanchez, Agripina “Aggie” Lopez, Jose T. Mendoza, Jr., Francisco “Frank” Mendoza; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Being a part of Maria’s life journey was something divine. She leaves our family and community with hearts filled with compassion, an understanding of God’s love, and the consolation that she has arrived home to be with Our Father who is waiting for us. Maria will be missed, but we look forward to meeting with her again.

Visitation for family, friends, and the community was planned from 4 – 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Deleon Funeral Home, 110 E. Cedar St., Lockhart, TX 78644. Vigil Service and Rosary were scheduled from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Catholic Church, 205 W. Pecan St, Lockhart, Texas,78644.

Funeral Mass was scheduled at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Catholic Church, with burial following at Guadalupe/Mendoza Cemetery in Mendoza, Texas.
