Harry Lynn Phelps passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, at the age of 82. He was born on October 18, 1942, in San Diego, California—a proud “war baby” to Thomas Eugene Phelps and Mary Jane Compton Phelps.

Harry was raised in Odem, Texas, and on May 2, 1964, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Phelps. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two children, Donna Lynn and Darren Ray Phelps. Years later Harry was reunited with his first son, Jeffrey Lynn Phelps who continues to live next door with the family.
He dedicated his career to the telecommunications industry, working with Contel, GTE, and Verizon, before retiring from Texas State University. Harry served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, was stationed in Korea, and always flew the American flag with honor.

Harry was preceded in death by his fathers, Thomas Phelps and Sherman Wells; his mother, Mary Jane Compton; his eldest brother, Arland Phelps; and his beloved “Granny Grunt,” Visa Lou Lillian Compton.

A memorial service will be held at the Fentress Community Cemetery on County Road 272 on Saturday, July 5, at 1:00 PM. Guestbook available at www.penningtonfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Fentress Community Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 292 Fentress, Texas 78622
