COLLEGE STATION – Unbeaten A&M Consolidated, ranked No. 1 in 5A D1 in Texas by one poll service, flexed its muscles in a 63-0 rout of an ailing Lockhart squad without its starting running back and quarterback Friday night at Tigerland Stadium.
The game featured 11 fumbles on what became a rain-soaked field as a driving rainstorm midway through the third quarter. In fact, Lockhart, thanks to five A&M sacks, bad losses on bad snaps to the punter and backward passes recovered by the Tigers, had the Lions managing a total of minus 48 yards in the game.
Lockhart ended the season at 2-8 overall, 2-6 in its new District 12. LHS lost its final 5 games after opening the district with a 2-1 record.
A&M had both an interception and fumble return for touchdowns.
The 63-0 loss is the largest shutout loss in school history for Lockhart. The most the Lions have ever allowed was in a 76-41 loss to Dripping Springs in 2020.
Lockhart used several underclassmen against A&M. Starting running back, senior Nathaniel Gonzales, and quarterback, sophomore Kadon Moebes, both missed the game due to injuries suffered in the previous game against Austin Anderson.
The Lions countered with sophomore quarterback Noel Jamie, sophomore running back Malik Hill and sophomore running back Dylan Hill, who carried 13 times in his first game on the varsity after being moved up from the junior varsity squad.
Even in the lopsided win, A&M only managed 253 yards of offense.
A&M scored on its second possession on a 19-yard touchdown run by Camron Roston with 6:09 left in the period. Colton Chmelar kicked the first of nine PATs for a 7-0 lead.
It only took the Tigers 46 seconds to score again when Nicholas Garcia returned an interception 38 yards for a score and a 14-0 lead.
With 26 seconds left in the first, Ja’Marion Mooring scored on a 3-yard run and a 21-0 lead.
A&M added four touchdowns in the second quarter – a 1-yard run by Vakapuma Foketi, a 31-yard pass from Jayden Mullenberg to Camron Vines 16 seconds later after recovering an onsides kick, a 17-yard pass from Mullenberg to Braylon Hunter, and a 31-yard pass from Jayden Mullenberg to Braylon Dickson.
A&M’s Michael Thompson recovered a backward pass on stepped into the end zone from a yard out in the third quarter, and Austin Dodge passed 17 yards to Dallas Nowak with 8:03 remaining for the final TD.
Lockhart managed just two first downs in the game.
