On Friday, Oct. 25, the Caldwell County Family Violence Task Force, in partnership with the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC), is hosting the Cultivating Change and Kindness: Compassionate Responses to Survivors and Ourselves Conference at the Connections Center in Lockhart. This full-day event promises to be an enriching experience for anyone invested in supporting survivors of family violence and building compassionate environments.

Attendees will hear from dynamic speakers who are leaders in the field of trauma, survivor advocacy, and family violence prevention. The distinguished lineup includes:

Dr. Chris Wilson, a retired psychologist and expert on the neurobiology of trauma. Dr. Wilson has worked with numerous organizations, including the U.S. Department of Justice and the National District Attorney’s Association, and brings vast experience in understanding trauma responses in survivors and creating trauma-informed approaches.

Alison Steele, founder of the CLEAR Alert system in Texas, was established in memory of her daughter, Cayley Mandadi. Steele’s advocacy led to the expansion of the Texas emergency broadcast system to include endangered missing adults, filling a critical gap in protecting vulnerable individuals.

A panel from the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV), one of the largest domestic violence coalitions in the nation, will share insights on fostering supportive environments for survivors and those who work closely with them. Their expertise will provide valuable strategies for creating safe spaces and promoting systemic change.
