Delores Castillo
Delores Castillo died peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 7, 2013.
She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jose Mojica on Sept. 15, 1931, in Lockhart. On May 5, 1948, she married Mr. Vicente Castillo in a ceremony in Lockhart, and they embarked on an adventurous lifestyle living in many states including Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio before
settling down in Lockhart in 1957.
Delores took great pride in her work. She held longtime positions as a seamstress for Betty Brooks Sportswear and as an assembly supervisor at Kewaunee Scientific. After retirement, she found her true calling for which everyone will remember her – the catering business. Delores took such joy in cooking, and the ultimate compliment was seeing her family and friends partake in one of her delicious meals.
Delores was preceded in death by parents, Jose and Maria Dolores; brothers, Ignacio Mojica, Martin Mojica and Marcos Mojica; sisters, Josefa Rodriguez, Sandalia Guerrero, Gregoria Cardenas and Refugia Pinales; and her husband of 35 years, Vicente Castillo.
She is survived by her children, Guadalupe Castillo (Josie), of New Braunfels, Jane Castillo, of Lockhart, Henry Castillo (Brenda), of Georgetown, and Mary Helen Ortiz, of Lockhart. Grandchildren include Jason Castillo (Melissa), Elizabeth Castillo, Vincent “Rob” Ortiz, III, Julayne Williams (Randy), Logan Castillo, Ellese Castillo, and great-grandchild, Johnathan Castillo. Additional family includes grandchildren, Monica Dasher (Robert), Michael Polanco (Amanda) and great-grandchildren Amanda Dasher, Kallie Dasher, Kaitlyn Dasher, Emily Dasher, Miranda Polanco and Matthew Polanco; and great-great-grandchild Bentlee Dasher. She is also survived by sisters, Toni Merrell, of Hudson, and Patsy Ortiz (Delfino), of San Antonio. She also leaves behind her beloved family dog, Spoony Love.
The family requests that donations be made to Heart to Heart Hospice of Austin, who so graciously cared for her since November.
On Sunday, a viewing was held at 3 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Deleon Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. with the burial following at Lockhart City Cemetery. The family then welcomed guests to the funeral reception at the Lockhart Evening Lions Club.
