Nearly 150 people gathered on the Courthouse Lawn on Thursday, May 4 to participate in the 55th Annual National Day of Prayer.

This year”s theme, “America, Honor God,” was chosen to remind people to remember the importance of faith during times of war.

Participants from several area churches and children from t

he Christian Home Educators of Caldwell County presented a program rich in inspiration, faith and hope.

Business and individual contributors provided funding and equipment for the hour-long ceremony during the lunch hour on Thursday. Speakers shared their visions while performers shared their talents.

Yvette Laukaitis, a member of Glad Tidings, dazzled the crowd with two uplifting hymns, while sisters Alicia and Elena Magana delivered an awe-inspiring version of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Guest speaker Pastor Mike Fritscher from the Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, urged participants to examine how they live to determine whether they are leading Christian lives.

Several local residents participated in the program, offering heart-warming, yet heart-wrenching prayers for local, state and Federal government leaders, for schools and teachers, for children and for the generations of veterans who have served and who continue to serve to protect America” s liberties.

Program literature included a list of Caldwell County”s elected officials, each with one name highlighted. Program emcee Nic Burlason from First Lockhart Baptist Church challenged each participant to remember the name of the highlighted official in their daily prayers.

Under Federal decree, the National Day of Prayer is held the first Thursday in May. In Caldwell County, National Day of Prayer ceremonies are held on the northeast corner of the Courthouse Lawn.
