Ella Leal Gomez passed away peacefully, of natural causes, at the age of 93, on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 in Lockhart, Texas.

She was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Lockhart, Texas, to Paul and Elvira Leal. For years, she was an active member of Oak View Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and participated in several women’s groups and activities.

She was preceded in

death by her husband, Henry H. Gomez, three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Rebecca Barrera, of Corpus Christi, Texas.

She is also survived by her seven children and their spouses: Angel and Carmen Gomez, Dora and Robert Mendez, Fidelia and Johnny Barron, Henry and Lala Gomez, Rudy and Dora Gomez, Sam and Virginia Gomez, and Paul and Lilly Gomez, all of Lockhart. Mrs. Gomez had 26 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Family visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2011, beginning at 7 p.m. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the First Lockhart Baptist Church. She was laid to rest at Lockhart City Cemetery following the service.

Services were under the direction of Samuel J. DeLeon and Son/DeLeon Funeral Home, 110 Cedar St., Lockhart, Texas 78644.

    I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Ella Leal Gomez. May GOD give each and everyone of you the strength needed to surpass your loss.

    Mrs. Gomez was a wonderful and charming lady. I will never forget her smile and friendliness she showed me every time I would see her.

    I would like to also send my deepest condolences to the family of Mrs. Gomez. I got to meet this wonderful lady and felt the love she had for all those she met during her lifetime. Fidelia , thank you for allowing me to know your mom during the time we worked together. Now we know that she is rejoicing with our Lord ,hoping that one day we too will rejoice ! I am sorry that I did not know about your lose. I will keep you in my prayers always, because you are special to me.

    I have truly been inspired by your life to live as a woman with true class and grace. Thank you for your sweet smile and your enthusiasm for life. I hold only the fondest of memories and I am so thankful for the time I had to spend with you.
