Galvans continue sporting adventure
Three Lockhart siblings are on a continued journey in Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Track and Field competition leading toward the Junior Olympics. They participated in the AAU Region 9 Track and Field championship July 12-13 in San Antonio. AAU Region 9 is home to some of the most fierce track and field competition in the United States.
Gabe Galván finished fourth in
the Sub-Bantam Shot Put with a throw of 22-04.50. This was a personal best for Gabe, who threw against the best throwers in the United States.
Ana Galván finished third in the Girls Midget discus with a throw of 79 ft. This was also a personal best for Ana, who has begun to make a name for herself as one of top 12-year-old discus throwers in the country.
Gabby Galván had quite an impressive meet this week, with a first place finish in the Youth Girls Shot Put. She was behind until the last attempt unleashed a powerful volley of 37-05 to take the lead and victory.
Gabby also had a second-place finish in the Youth Girls Javelin with a throw of 85-02. This was a personal best for her as well.
She capped off the meet with an outstanding toss of 121 feet in the Discus which brought the crowd to their feet. Gabby finished 29 feet ahead of her next competitor. This toss catapulted Gabby to the No. 2 spot in the country for 13-year-old Girls’ Discus.
The Galván siblings will try and better their showing at the Junior Olympics this year. They have another year of experience and are anxious to represent their hometown of Lockhart at the games. The siblings will be in Knoxville representing Lockhart from July 30 – Aug. 4.
