Garlon Andrew Alexander
Garlon Alexander, 99, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on June 14, 2010. He was born on Sept. 27, 1910, in McMahan, Texas, to Martha Elizabeth and George Robin Alexander. Garlon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jewel Galloway Alexander; great-grandson, Alexander Chesser; and eight siblings.
He is survived by Judy Kay Alexander and Humberto Martinez, of
Lockhart, and Ann Alexander and Steve Fisher, of Arizona; grandchildren: Rodney Chesser and wife, Tracie, Robin Chesser, Shane Roberts, Bryan Roberts and Kevin Roberts; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the First United Methodist Church and previously a member of Clark’s Chapel Methodist Church. In 1955 he organized the Clark’s Chapel Cemetery Organization, and the first Magee family reunion was held. Garlon and his wife Jewel diligently researched information about Clark’s Chapel to achieve an Historical Marker. The marker was erected at the cemetery on June 12, 2005.
In October 1990, Jewel and Garlon Alexander were honored to be granted membership to the Family Land Heritage Program. These farms and ranches have been in continuous agricultural production at the hands of one family for 100 or more years.
“Mr. Garlon” is remembered fondly by the many who worked for him and “traded” with him at the Mobil station downtown. He is respected as an honest man who was devoted to his family and friends.
The family will receive callers at McCurdy Funeral Home on Monday, June 28, 2010, from 5 – 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 10 a.m., with a reception following at 417 S. Main St., in Lockhart.
Memorials may be given to Clarks’ Chapel Cemetery Fund at First Lockhart National Bank or an organization of your choice.
