Geraldine Smith
Geraldine “Jenny” Smith, 69, of Buda, went to be with her heavenly Father on Aug. 20, 2015.
Jenny was a woman of strength, courage and faith and fought through many battles. She devoted her life to her family with the purest love. She taught us all how to love without condition, to always forgive, to help others and to be strong and never give up. She was a caregiver to he
r sister Laverne for many years, even though battling triple negative breast cancer and chemo. ALS then took control of her and she was provided the best care by her oldest daughter, Marsha. Jenny fought this beast for over a year with God by her side.
Jenny was preceded in death by her spouse, Kenneth J. Smith; her parents, Joe and Annie Maretka; and her brother, Joseph (Butsey) Maretka.
She is survived by her sisters, Laverne Chaka, Lillian Zabodyn and Patty Maretka; and her brother, Gene Maretka and wife, Liz. Also survived by her lifelong friend, Elmer J. Redwine; her children: Marsha Hudgins, Roger and wife, Debra Redwine, Richard and wife, Debra Redwine, Nancy Watson, Robert and wife, Jacqueline Redwine, Tina Smith and husband, Arthur Torres and step-sons, Kenneth Smith, Jr. and wife, DJ, Roy Smith, and Fred Smith and wife, Jolynn; 12 grandkids and three great-grandsons.
We would like to give special thanks to Marsha Hudgins for dedicating the last seven months to 24/7 care. Also to all family members that helped when possible and to New Century Hospice for the care and support through this difficult time. Thank you to all our friends and family for the continual prayers. A special thanks to the ALS Guardian Angels, Stu Millheiser, for providing support.
Family received friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
