Hollice Hemphill
Hollice Hemphill, of Red Rock, Texas, passed away on July 5, 2013. He was born on Dec. 1, 1926, to Vilas and Amina Ray Hemphill in High Grove, Texas. He is survived by son, Gregory Hemphill, MD, and wife Brenda, and grandson, Travis Hemphill and wife, Elizabeth, all of Austin. He is also survived by niece, Denise Voigt Crawford, nephew, Barry Voigt and wife, Linda, and many ext
ended family members.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Louise Hemphill; his sister, Muriel Voigt; and his parents.
Hollice graduated from Bastrop High School in 1945 and had fond memories of playing football and basketball for the Bastrop Bears. He served in the Army during World War II and retired from the City of Austin as a Supervisor of the Water and Wastewater Department. He spent his retirement years raising cattle in Red Rock and traveling to all 50 states. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lockhart.
Hollice was a long time member of Austin Elks Lodge 201 and a Past State President of the Texas Elks State Association. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 83 in Austin and twice served as Post Commander.
The family would like to thank all who cared for Hollice during his final years, including the staff at Argent Court, Resolutions Hospice and his compassionate caretaker, Linda Cloud.
Visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday, July 26 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home, 505 Old Austin Highway, Bastrop, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m. at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home with burial to follow at the New Red Rock Cemetery.
