Law enforcement agencies across the state continue to search for a 24-year-old man who escaped from the custody of the Bastrop County Jail on Monday.

According to reports from the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Ross Brandon Brekhus, whose driver’s lic

ense reflects an address in Texarkana, escaped from a road crew while working as a trusty in the Rosanky area on Monday afternoon.
He was being held for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and escaped from the crew on foot.

Late Monday evening, reports surfaced that Brekhus, who stands around 5’6”, weighs 148 pounds and has tattoos on his upper body, had stolen a truck from a residence on Juddo Road, near where he escaped from the crew.
It was believed at the time that Brekhus was headed for Pasedena in the stolen vehicle, a white Chevrolet extended cab pickup.

The search for Brekhus on Monday included assistance from the Austin Police Department’s helicopter unit and K-9 teams from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Additionally, law enforcement agencies in the surrounding areas have been notified.

It was unclear at press time whether Brekhus was armed or should be considered dangerous. Early reports suggested the possibility, but the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office offered no confirmation or denial to the allegation.

Regardless, anyone who sees or thinks they have seen Brekhus is encouraged to contact local authorities at once, and then notify the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office at (512) 303-1080.
