John Manly Turner
John Manly “Paw-paw” Turner, 75, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at his home in McMahan. He was born in Austin on Nov. 19, 1930, the son of Robert Manly and Annie (Boucher) Turner.
John, known by his family and friends as “Big John” and “Paw-paw,” had resided in the McMahan community for the past 35 years, having moved there in 1971. He was a member of the McMah
an Baptist Church. He was a retired superintendent for Mica Corporation, owner-operator truck driver, and a life-long farmer and rancher.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Annie Turner; his first wife of 45 years, Gloria Ann, in 1996; one son, Jack Manly, and by his half-brother, Robert “Bob” Bosworth.
He is survived by his current wife of seven years, Dede; two sons, Rocky Dale Turner and his wife Connie of Hutto, and Jimmie Lee Turner and his wife Katharine of McMahan; two granddaughters, Jessica Ann Hutcheson and her husband Brandon of McMahan, and Laura Jane Brast and her husband Eric of Lockhart; one great-grandson, James Lee Hutcheson; two sisters, Elsie Faye Kreger of Blanco, and Donna Nell White of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at McCurdy Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. in the McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Rev. Derald Duggar officiating. Interment will follow at Bateman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Wayne Kreger, Donee Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Keith White, Justin Evans and Matt Harvey.
Memorials in honor of John may be made to the American Cancer Society.
