Julia V. Mendez, age 90, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Julia lived a full and joyful life marked by love, laughter, and strong family ties.

Julia cherished the simple pleasures—sitting outside on her porch, enjoying the breeze and reading the many heartfelt greeting cards sent to her over the years in the quiet comfort of her home. She loved playing poker and lotería with her family, where her sharp wit and playful spirit always shone through. A devoted Texas Rangers fan, Julia rarely missed a game and often spent her evenings on the phone with her brothers discussing every pitch and play.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Julia Vasquez, brothers, Catarino Vasquez, Frank Vasquez, Juan Vasquez, Anselmo Vasquez, and her sisters, Dioncia Rayos, Eusebia Balderas, Manuela Nino, Lupe Ortiz, and beloved son, Daniel Mendez.

Julia leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her daughters, Rachel Acosta (Santos) and Julie Yanez (Louis); her sister, Minnie Perez; her nine beautiful grandchildren; and countless great-grandchildren and grand pup, Marlie, who brought light to her later years.

Pallbearers honoring her memory are her nephew and grandchildren: Joe Rayos, Daniel Mendez, Jr., Jennifer Mendez, Jordan Mendez, Corinne Yanez, Louis Yanez, Jr., and Rafael Montoya.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her compassionate caregivers, Yolanda Llamas and Susanna Del Angel, Heart to Heart Hospice, and the Lockhart Fire Department, whose kindness and support meant so much. We are also deeply grateful to the neighbors and friends who stepped in during times of need—your care did not go unnoticed.

Julia’s warmth, humor, favorite catch phrase, and devotion to family will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will continue to live on in the stories shared, the games played, and every Texas Rangers game watched in her honor.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home, 2220 S Colorado St, Lockhart, TX 78644. For more information and to sign the online registry, please visit thomasonfuneralhome.com.
