The Junior Varsity Lady Lions fell 19-25 and 22-25 to the Elgin Lady Wildcats at the Lion’s Den on Friday, Oct. 3. The Lady Lions were coming off a 25-16 and 25-13 win over the Del Valle Lady Cardinals, who they defeated at Del Valle on Tuesday, Sept 30.
Communication, or lack of it, was a problem for the JV Lady Lions agai
nst the Lady Wildcats on Friday, according to coach Melissa Fisher.
The Lady Lions also had problems getting a rhythm going and it affected the entire match, she said.
“They struggled to get their usual spark going that they have had in past wins,” Fisher said. “They struggled to communicate, which affected their passing, which of course, affected their ability to generate kills.”
The Lady Lions played as well as they could, but it was not enough. The Lady Wildcats proved to be tough competitors than had been expected.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Lions had a much different outcome at Del Valle. They shut down the Lady Cardinals in two sets.
“Meredith Olivares led the Lady Lions with the highest number of quality passes off of serve service,” Fisher said. “Cassie Arredondo had five aces in the game with Alexandria Carter and Sydney Hendrichs each contributing two.”
The Lady Lions are 14-6 overall and 3-2 in district.
The JV Lady Lions hosted the Hays Lady Rebels on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and will travel to Hays to face the Lehman Lady Lobos on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
See you at the game.
