The Varsity Lady Lions have a 13-17 overall record and a 2-2 in district play after falling 22-25, 22-25 and 22-25 to the San Marcos Lady Rattlers at the Lion’s Den on Friday, Sept. 26. The Lady Lions had traveled to Manor on Tuesday, Sept. 23, where they defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-16, 28-13 and 25-19.

Lockhart vs. San M

The Lady Lions started strong against the Lady Rattlers. They came out ready to play, but in the end it was the Lady Rattlers who prevailed.

“The girls were fired up,” Coach Jamye Pauley said. “They fought with every ounce of energy they had. They just had big moments of the down time and not enough of the good time.”

Aces in the game came from Heather Domel, Lauren Moore and Jessica Guerra who contributed two each. Guerra also made 10 assists. Shelby Henrichs had 13 digs while Isis Johnson made three blocks and five kills in the game.

The Lady Lions tried to come back from their two- and three-point deficits, but to no avail. The Lady Rattlers proved to be a much stronger team and pressured the Lady Lions down to the last play in each set.

“The jump serve killed us in this match,” Pauley said. “I know they worked hard and did what they could. It just wasn’t quite enough in this match. Losing is hard for the girls and they are not going to let this get them down. I am proud of them for all the heart they had.”

Lockhart vs. Manor
After losing their first district game and then redirecting their momentum to win their second district contest, the Lady Lions realized just how talented they are and the steps that will be required to keep their play off hopes alive.

The Lady Lions remained calm and confident against Manor, defeating the Lady Mustangs in three straight sets.
Chelsy Martinez made four aces, Henrichs had 11 digs, Guerra made 10 assists and Johnson made nine kills and one block in the game.

“In this match, our girls really executed our game plan,” Pauley said. “We knew they had one really strong hitter and that we had to take her out of the game offensively. I was extremely proud that the girls had intensity, fight, heart and passion in this game. It has been something that is not always consistent in everyone.”

The Varsity Lady Lions traveled to Del Valle and played against the Lady Cardinals on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and will host the Lady Wildcats at the Lion’s Den gym in a game against Elgin on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.

See you at the game.
