JV Lions drop Crockett Cougars 59-47

In a rough-and-tumble game marked by ample fouls on both sides, the JV Lions scored a home-court victory over the Crockett Cougars on Tuesday evening.
Despite coming out to a lagging 8-13 first quarter start, the Lions turned up the pressure in the second quarter, scratching out a 29-24 lead.

ons, who poured on 24 points while holding the Cougars to only five.
Crockett answered back in the fourth, firing up an 18-point rally and only allowing five points from the Lions. However, the Lions battened down the hatches, and the Cougars ran out of time, with the Lions on top of a 59-47 score at the final buzzer.
JP Contreras and Brian Tumlinson led the Lions on offense, each picking up 21 points on the night. Notably, 11 of Tumlinson’s points came from 14 attempts at the free-throw line. Michael Kerr added six points to the total score, while Joseph Carrasco contributed five and Jeremy Gonzales had four. Isaac Leija added two free-throws to the Lions’ final score.
As a team, the Lions had 17 fouls on the night, resulting in 22 free-throw attempts and 13 points for the Cougars. Crockett, on the other hand, fouled 18 times, resulting in 26 attempts and 18 team points.
The JV Lions will be on the courts at the Hays Rebel Classic on Friday and Saturday. They are scheduled to face the Hays Rebels on Friday morning at 9 a.m., and the Canyon Cougars on Friday at noon. Pool play will continue on Saturday.
The Lions will host Canyon Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. Tipoff is slated at 5:30 p.m. in the Lion’s Den.
