Lady Hawks tame Lady Lions 5-1, 5-2

After losing to the Pflugerville Hendrickson Lady Hawks 5-1 at the Noack Sports Complex in Austin on Thursday, April 24, the Lady Lions were determined to get back in the game. They could not wait for Saturday’s game and worked hard to prepare for it.

rickson beat Lockhart 5-2 at the same field on Saturday, April 26, scoring all five of their winning runs in an eleventh hour rally at the top of the seventh inning.

Game Two
It was hot and humid on Saturday. Friday night storms drenched the ground, so a sunny mid-afternoon weighed heavy with humidity on Saturday. The American flag, draped like a wet cloth around the flagpole, seemed frozen, waiting for the slightest breeze to unfurl it at least once during the game.
Saturday’s playoff game was competitive from the beginning. Neither team scored a run until the bottom of the fifth, when Lady Lion Jaime Schulle led off with a double and Lady Lion Chelsey Martinez hit a single, earning an RBI and driving Schulle home.
The Lady Hawks missed the first opportunity to turn the game in their favor during the top of the fifth. With bases loaded and two outs, the Lady Hawks could have put their team on the board, but it was not to be. Taylor Boedecker struck out the Lady Hawk’s batter, stranding the base runners and bringing the Lady Lions back to bat.
The Lady Lions celebrated the game’s first run as Schulle crossed home plate and the Lockhart fans cheered from the stands. The game’s momentum shifted and the Lady Lions rallied.
With the score at 1-0 and Lockhart in the lead, the game took on a more serious tone. Both teams continued to be extremely cautious, trying not to make any errors as they fought for the win. The sixth inning ended with no additional runs from either team.
The seventh inning was a whirlwind, with the Lady Hawks shocking the Lady Lions into submission with five runs, one after another, and ultimately sending the Lions into an emotional shredder.
The Lady Hawk’s fate began to change with a walk to first. Then, scoring on a squeeze play, they tied the game 1-1. Bases were loaded then a base hit scored another run sending the Hawks into a 2-1 lead.
With great momentum and a loud crowd cheering them on, the Lady Hawks hit a double into right-center for a 5-1 score.
After the short lived mayhem subsided, the Lady Lions answered back with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late.
Schulle led off with a single. Martinez reached first base on a fielder’s choice where Schulle was thrown out. Amanda Capello reached first base on a hit-by-pitch. Kassie Gaddis hit to shallow right-center, scoring Martinez, but was thrown out trying to steal second, ending the game and the Lady Lions’ playoff appearance.
Veronica Escobedo was 2-3 with a double. Schulle was 2-3 with double. Martinez had a single and an RBI. Gaddis had a single and an RBI.
Boedecker struck out seven Lady Hawks, while Schulle came in for relief at the top of the seventh forcing a Hawk to ground out to end the inning.

Game One
Lady Lions lost 5-1. Lockhart scored a single run in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Janie Juarez.
The Lady Hawks scored one run in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth.
Boedecker started pitching for the game and Schulle came in for relief in the fifth striking out three batters in the sixth.
Escobedo had a triple. Juarez was 3-4 with a double and an out-of-the-park home run. Zaida Hager, Martinez, Gaddis and Boedecker each had a single.
The Lady Lion coaches, Lisa Cone and Alisha Homann would like to thank all the fans and parents for their hard work and support this year. Most of all they wish to express how proud they are of the Lady Lion’s efforts this season. They are honored to have coached such a wonderful group of young ladies.
“We will truly miss the seniors,” Cone and Homann said. “They have played a key role in the Lady Lion Softball program.”
Krista Law, Hager and Juarez will be graduating this year.
The Lady Lions ended their spectacular season with a 26-7 record.
