Lady Lions close season with seventh place finish
The Lady Lions cross country team competed in the District 27-4A Championships at Lockhart City Park on Saturday, Oct. 30. The district is comprised of Alamo Heights, Schertz Clemens, Hays, Lehman, New Braunfels Canyon, Smithson Valley and Lockhart.
The Lady Lion Varsity team placed seventh at the meet. The Canyon Lady Cougars won the meet with 38 points. Smithson Valley
was second place with 46 points and Alamo Heights finished third with 85 points.
The Lady Lions were led by sophomore Olivia Smith, who placed 17th overall and completed 3,100-meter course with a time of 12:16. Senior Alissa Casteel was next across the finish line in 29th place with a time of 12:53. Sophomore Alex Lindsey was the third Lockhart finisher (35th at 13:13), followed by senior Alysia Peralez (38th at 13:24), freshman Ana Espinoza (39th at 13:25), sophomore Ali Colurciello (40th at 13:30) and sophomore Jenny Saad (45th at 13:45).
In the Junior Varsity division, the Lockhart squad was led by freshman Kaitlyn Harkin who finished in 22nd place with a final time of 13:46. Freshmen Nessa Rios finished 30th in 14:04. The next Lady Lion finisher was freshman Sierra Steele (35th place, 14:37), followed by junior Libby Thomas (49th place, 15:33) and sophomore Mercedes Gutierrez (53rd place, 15:52).
In the Freshman division, Megan Borgeson was the lone Lockhart runner. She finished in 14th place with a time of 15:45.
“All the girls showed tremendous effort out there today,” Coach Tim Bayliss said. “This is one of the toughest districts in the state of Texas, and the girls battled hard. Almost every one of the girls improved their times today. It has been an outstanding season, and I am very proud of all the girls this season.”
