Lady Lions get tamed at home by Steele, Clemens

The Varsity Lady Lions hosted the Steele Lady Knights on Tuesday, Jan. 29 and the Clemens Lady Buffaloes on Friday, Feb. 1. Both games ended in a loss for the Lady Lions. Steele beat Lockhart 93-35 and the Lady Lions fell to Clemens 63-43.
“Steele is first place in district and they were just too strong for us tonight,” He
ad Girls Basketball Coach Stuart Porter said after the game.
High scorers for the Lady Lions against the Steele Lady Knights were Mariah Carter with 12 points, Amanda Alvarez with eight and Alisha Officer with six.
Friday night’s game was not as tough a loss as Tuesday’s was for the Lady Lions, but it still ended in a loss.
“The Ladies played hard tonight and the game was close throughout, with Clemens only up by five at the half,” Porter said. “In the second half, the Lady Buffaloes started to pull away mainly due to their full court press which we had trouble handling.”
The high scorers for the game against Clemens were Carter with 18 points and Alvarez with 17.
The Junior Varsity Lady Lions lost to Steele 68-26 and to Clemens 59-24.
Scoring against the Steele Lady Knights were Shavonda Hill with eight points, Jesi Greer with seven, Cortney Ferris and Andrea McKinney each with four and Shelby Kennedy with three.
Scoring against the Clemens Lady Buffaloes were McKinney with seven points, Greer with six and Ferris with five. Jocelyn Coleman, Audry Valdez and Samantha Duncan each contributed two points against Clemens.
The Lady Lions traveled to Kyle and played against the Lehman Lady Lobos on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
