The Lockhart Lady Lions golf team has been keeping busy on the course, competing in a pair of challenging tournaments this month.
The Lady Lions teed it up at the Westwood Invitational at Balcones Country Club in Austin on Feb. 9, followed by the Pfeiffer Oldfield Invitational at Lost Pines Golf Club in Bastrop on Feb. 23. Both events gave the team a chance to test its progress as district competition draws closer.
“While we didn’t end up where we wanted to be on the leaderboard,” Lady Lions Head Golf Coach Greg Rowe said, “we have seen a couple of players improve from the beginning of the season in August, and have a solid plan of skills to work on ahead of our district tournament in March.”
As a team, Lockhart posted a 440 at the Westwood Invitational and followed with a 491 at the Oldfield Invitational. On both days, sophomore Marisol Capetillo led the way. She carded a 100 at Westwood and improved her experience with a 111 at Lost Pines, continuing to set the pace for the
squad.
Rowe said Capetillo, along with freshman Soleil Ledesma, has shown steady development throughout the season.
“Marisol and Soleil have made great progress on the season and offer us a solid foundation going into district,” he said.
The team also includes junior Zoie Ledesma and sophomore Priya Patel, who continue to gain valuable tournament experience as the Lady Lions prepare for district play in March.
