Levonia Swaffar
Levonia Cooke Swaffar moved to her Heavenly Father’s home on Feb. 16, 2009, at the age of 92. She was born in Slate Spring, Miss., on Aug., 6, 1916, to Rev. Jesse G. and Mary Moreland Cooke. She was the oldest of six children and was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Cooke, and sisters, Gwynne Wilson and Jamie Jones, of Lockhart, and Lois Reich, of De Ridder, La. One
brother, Paul Cooke, survives her in Nacogdoches.
Levonia lived in several cities in Texas and Oklahoma, but since 1998 lived in Houston, Texas, near her family.
Levonia met William Larkin “Bill” Swaffar through a mutual friend in Lockhart, Texas, and they were married on July 13, 1946, at which time they moved to Oklahoma, where they raised two sons. Bill preceded her in death in 1977.
Levonia leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Robert Neal Perry and wife, Toni, and James Keith “Jim” Swaffar and wife, Lynn, of Houston; grandchildren: Jay Perry of Houston, Jessica Perry Hooks and her husband, Brandon, of Tomball, Jimmie Swaffar, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Andrew Swaffar, of Bryan, and Catherine Swaffar, of Budapest, Hungary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends and other family members who loved and respected her.
Family accepted friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb., 19, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Lockhart City Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
