Library to host discussion of possibility of a Public Defender Office in county

Shannon M. Fitzpatrick, a San Marcos attorney who once work t the Hays County District Attorney’s Office, will be moderating a panel on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Dr. Eugene Clark Library in Lockhart regarding “Should Caldwell County Pursue a Public Defender Office?”

Fitzpatrick said, “Public Defender offices have been widely praised for providing superior legal representation for low-income individual. In Hays County, a recently adopted PDO has seen serious success.

“Local officials and experts on public defense — with confirmed speakers including Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden, County Commissioner Dyral Thomas, and Scott Ehlers, the Executive Director of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission — will take part in a panel discussion to explore whether this might be a prudent model for Caldwell County.”

Everyone is welcomed to take part in the discussion.
