Lidia G. Morales


Lidia G. Morales, daughter of the late Reimundo Gonzales and Guadalupe Ortiz Gonzales, went home to the Lord on May 2, 2018. She was 64 years old.  She was born on July 19, 1953 in Lockhart, Texas, the oldest girl of 10 children.  She was a lifelong resident of Lockhart.
Lidia was a Lockhart High School graduate of the Class of 1972.  After graduation, she went on to serve LISD as a teacher’s aide.  She enjoyed teaching and inspiring the lives of many students during her 33-year tenure with the district.
Lidia’s family was her pride and joy.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jose P. Morales, on Jan. 24, 1975.  Their 43-year union was blessed with three children and four grandchildren: Irma Linda Rayos of Marion, TX, Joe Ray Morales (Kelly) of Harvest, AL, and Irene Maggie Morales of San Antonio, TX.  Grandchildren:  Dante Cedillo, Javier Morales, Richard Rayos II, and Hayden Rae Morales.
Her memory will forever be cherished in the lives of the family she leaves behind: Brothers: Fred Gonzales (Margie), Ernest Gonzales (Lupe), Freddy Gonzales (Sylvia), Ismo Gonzales (Flo), and Ruben Gonzales, all of Lockhart, TX; Joe Gonzales (Mary) of San Marcos, TX; Sam Gonzales (Carmen) and Robert Gonzales (Angie) of Austin, TX; her beloved sister, Ester Yruegas (Tony) of Cuero, TX.  She also leaves behind many devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lidia was a fierce protector and matriarch of her family’s history and legacy.  She enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood memories and humble beginnings.  Lidia often visited with family members and friends, old and new, at her childhood home on Reynolds Street.
Her family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice of San Marcos for their upmost care, compassion, and support during her illness.
Family received friends from 5-7, Monday, May 7 with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home. Mass of a Christian burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
