Lion baseball defeats district rivals
Lions vs. Del Valle
The Lockhart varsity baseball team defeated the Del Valle Cardinals in a district contest, 7-4, on Thursday, March 24. The win gave the Lions” their second victory in the young district season.
Senior Clay Ohlendorf started on the mound, and earned the victory for the Lions.
Del Valle scored one run in the third inning and two in the fo
urth to take a 3-0 lead. Coming from behind has been nothing new to this Lion squad as they have done it all year. The Lions roared back and scored three runs in the fourth to tie the game.
Seniors Ohlendorf, Daniel Barnes and Dusty Mack all crossed the plate to tie the game for the Lions. Senior Andrew Capello, juniors Michael Wright and Arron Torres each were credited with an RBI for the inning.
Del Valle scored their last run of the night in the top of the fifth inning to take back the lead. Lockhart promptly scored three runs in the same frame to gain the lead for good.
Ohlendorf, Mack and sophomore Dennis Ortiz all crossed the plate to tally runs for the Lions. Senior Jacob Mendez had one RBI for the inning.
Lockhart scored once more in the sixth inning when senior Wes Selman reached base on a double, and was brought around to score off the bat of Daniel Barnes.
Lockhart now stands at 7-5 for the season, and 2-1 for district. The Lions next home game with be Friday, April 1, against Taylor at 6:30 p.m.
Lions vs. Vista Ridge
The Lockhart varsity baseball team defeated the Vista Ridge Rangers, 4-3, in a district contest Tuesday, March 22.
Lockhart soon found themselves trailing 3-0 after two innings of play.
Sophomore Michael Schulle came in at the top of the third to pitch five scoreless innings in relief and pick up the win for the Lions.
Lockhart scored their first run in the third inning when senior Justin Garcia scored on a RBI single off the bat of junior Michael Wright.
Lockhart scored two more runs in the fourth when seniors Clay Ohlendorf and Dusty Mack crossed the plate to tie the game at three apiece.
Seniors Jacob Mendez and Mack were credited with one RBI each during the inning.
Senior Wes Selman scored the go ahead run in the fifth inning to give the Lions the lead for good.
