The Lockhart High School Varsity Boys took on tough competition at the Wimberley Hoopfest Holiday tournament last weekend, finishing with a 1-3 record. Despite playing short-handed due to injuries to multiple players, the Lions displayed tenacity and showcased standout performances.
In their opener against host Wimberley, which is ranked No. 23 in 4A, the Lions fought hard but fell 75-69. Senior Dareon Loggins led the charge with 37 points, while junior DJ Anthony added 11.
The Lions bounced back in dominant fashion against Vanguard High School, earning a 73-28 victory. Anthony led the way with 20 points, while Loggins and senior Roman Moreno chipped in 10 points each.
Saturday’s games were tightly contested, but Lockhart came up short against Stephenville High School, which is ranked No. 20 in 4A, 69-63, despite Loggins scoring 27 and Anthony adding 15 points. The final matchup against John F. Kennedy High School ended in a 63-55 loss, with Loggins posting 20 points and Anthony contributing 19.
Anthony received All-Tournament Team honors.
“Our players left it all on the court,” said LHS head coach Collin Hart. “We had strong individual performances and moments of great team play. These games gave us a lot to learn from, and we’ll use this experience to get better.”
The Lions will return to action on Friday, Jan. 3, against Cedar Park High School at home. Freshman, JV will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., and Varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
