First-year Lockhart girls basketball Head Coach Mark Rague found out his senior star player, Rakaia Walker, had 2,000 career points in the most unassuming of ways.

In a game at Hays High School in Buda on Jan. 24, a player for the Hawks was honored on their Senior Night as having eclipsed 1,000 career points.

“I was sitting by Rakaia during the presentation (for the Hays player), and I asked her how many points she had,” Rague said. “She calmly and matter-of-factly said she had passed 2,000 points.

“I was amazed as I had no idea she had eclipsed that milestone. My point is Rakaia has always been a player who absolutely just plays as hard as possible and doesn’t focus on individual accolades. She just goes hard. It is a great quality to be hard working and dedicated while ultimately putting your team before any type of individual accolades.”

The Lockhart girls celebrated Walker’s 2,000 career points on Tuesday, Jan. 28, during the LHS Senior Night.

Walker also excels academically and has signed a track scholarship with Rice University.
