Lockhart boys XC 3rd at Islander Splash Invitational

The Lockhart boys cross country team traveled to Corpus Christi on Saturday, Sept. 28 to compete in the Islander Splash Invitational.

The Lockhart team finished third out of 22 teams competing. The Lions were led by sophomore Ethan Herrera who completed the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes and 57 seconds. Herrera finished first out of a field of 175 competitors.

Sophomore Ivan Gonzales finished eight seconds behind Herrera, finishing fourth overall with a time of 17:05. Freshman Irving Ferretiz had an outstanding race as he placed 13th with a time of 17:41. The Lion’s fourth man was junior Paul Munoz, who placed 55th in a time of 18:57.

For the first time all season, sophomore Jaidyn Slussler finished as Lockhart’s fifth man in 74th place with a time of 19:29.

The Lion’s sixth man was sophomore Keaton Archer who placed 85th with a time of 19:41. Lockhart Junior, Conner Zea, placed 96th in a time of 20:09. Completing the squad was Junior Jase Ramsey who placed 124th with a time of 20:59.

The Lockhart Boys and Girls cross country teams will travel to Old Settlers Park on Thursday, Oct. 10, to compete at the district 25-5A championships. The varsity girls’ race will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the varsity boys race at 8:30 a.m.
