The Lockhart Fishing Team is officially reeling in excitement as it begins to take shape. Though still in its early stages, Head Coach Hayden Wilson and a group of dedicated students are working hard to get the team established and fully equipped to compete. Once everything is in place, the team plans to join the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) Central Division, which covers tournaments across many of the Austin-area lakes.

Coach Wilson and the team are starting from the ground up, focusing on gathering the essentials needed to compete successfully. They are currently seeking community sponsors to help cover startup costs such as:

•Boats

•Rods and reels

•Tackle and fishing gear

•Jerseys and apparel

“It takes a solid foundation and the right tools to get going,” Coach Wilson said. “Every bit of support helps bring this program to life for our student anglers.”

To help the young anglers hone their skills, the Lockhart Fishing Team is also looking for local property owners with stocked bass ponds who would be willing to allow practice sessions. Access to these private ponds will give the students valuable hands-on experience before they cast their lines in official tournaments.

Coach Wilson has a key meeting scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to discuss sponsorship opportunities and to set a date for the team’s first official meeting. “This will help us get our feet on the ground and the ball rolling,” he said, noting that community involvement is crucial in these early stages.
