Lockhart ISD’s Navarro Elementary welcomed almost 80 educators from schools across Texas last week for the “Leader in Me” Symposium, showcasing their successful implementation of the renowned leadership framework. Student leaders took center stage, serving as tour guides, performing for visitors, and providing firsthand demonstrations of how Leader in Me is transforming their educational experience.

“Having a culture of leadership is vital because it prepares students for success inside and outside the classroom,” Principal Adam Miller said. “Our school’s success with the Leader in Me framework was a team effort by everyone – teachers, staff, students, and families.”

During the symposium, educators witnessed firsthand how the Leader in Me framework is integrated into Navarro’s classrooms, with students proudly showcasing their leadership binders and explaining how these tools empower them to achieve their goals.

Leader in Me, a framework focused on developing interpersonal leadership skills, has been implemented across every campus in Lockhart ISD. Navarro’s selection to participate in the symposium highlights their exemplary implementation of the framework and its positive impact on student learning and development.

The event was coordinated by Navarro’s “Lighthouse Team” of teachers and staff, who work together to ensure that the campus continues to promote student leadership by incorporating the Leader in Me framework throughout the school curriculum, activities, and culture. The Lighthouse Team is led by Music Teacher, Meredith Shoults.
“Navarro Elementary’s dedication to a culture of leadership exemplifies our district’s commitment to ‘UnLocking Potential’ in our students,” Superintendent Mark Estrada said. “We are thrilled to see our educators and students ‘Lockhart Leading’ the way and serving as an example for other districts with this transformative approach.”
